Mission

The mission of the Bible Society of the West Indies is to provide Holy Scriptures and other related materials to every man, woman and child, in the Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Turks & Caicos Islands in languages and forms each can readily understand at affordable prices on a not for profit bases by seeking support from and working with all christian churches and Ministries, Individuals and organizations that share this Mission.

As a Bible Society, we are committed to serving the mission of the Church by making the scriptures available for worship, witness, discipleship, and spiritual growth.

 

OUR OBJECTIVE

To provide scriptures to meet human needs from the ministry of the churches for worship, nurture, service and evangelism.

 

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE BIBLE SOCIETY?

A Board of Directors governs the BSWI and determines its policies and general direction. A General Secretary heads the administrative staff, operating out of our head office “Bible House.” Each of the five territories that comprise the Bible Society of the West Indies is referred to as an “auxiliary.” Each Auxiliary has a steering committee and elects its own chairperson to guide the committee.

We are assisted by Volunteers in the distribution of Scriptures, fundraising and the society’s national Bible Quiz.

Scriptures in hundreds of languages that have never before received the Bible

Scriptures on audiotape and in Braille

Scriptures with study helps

Scriptures in emerging media like CD-ROM, DVD, Videotape and the internet.

 

HOW ARE THE SCRIPTURES DISTRIBUTED?

The Scriptures are distributed through churches, schools, volunteers, bookstores and parachurch organizations.

 

WHICH VERSIONS AND FORMATS ARE DISTRIBUTED?

Scriptures, which include Bibles, testaments, portions and selections (Tracts) are distributed in a number of versions and formats. Versions include: Kings James, New King James, New International, Today’s English, Jamaican New Testament (JNT) and the Revised Standard versions to name some.

We also have scriptures in a number of print and non-print formats including: colouring books, activity books, comics, audio cassettes, CD’s, electronic bibles, Braille and large print.

 

HOW IS THE BIBLE SOCIETY OF THE WEST INDIES FINANCED?

Financial support is received from churches, parish committees, individuals and organizations. Registered members of the society give annual or life membership subscriptions.

Being a registered charitable organization, BSWI will issue income tax credit certificates upon request for contributions made during a calendar year.
